Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Chief Electrician oversees maintenance of all onboard electrical systems and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, as well as company standards. Many of the duties of the Chief Electrician will be to manage activities being conducted by his/her electrical and maintenance staff.

  • Manage preventive maintenance system (Star /SAP) and ensure procedures and documentation are maintained on a timely basis. Create modifications to system as needed and insure the changes are made according to Management of Change policies.
  • Monitor the Star / SAP for upcoming maintenance; create and distribute work orders. Monitor JSA and permit to work for all electrical tasks. Close out daily work orders and ensure that corrective work orders are documented on all repairs.
  • Manage LOTO in relation to electrical and remote or auto-start equipment. Monitor the Star / SAP for upcoming electrical inspections and coordinate scheduled inspections with rig operations.
  • Carry out scheduled inspections and maintenance of automated equipment to include instrumentation as directed by (Star / SAP). Schedule all required third party inspections of all rig control and electrical systems as required by Regional regulatory and Class bodies. Ensure documentation is channeled back to electrical engineering Department
  • Perform scheduled calibration of all metering and instrumentation as required in the maintenance system Troubleshoot and repair automated equipment and instrumentation.
  • Make minor program changes for repairs and improvements. Maintain version control for PLC programs and software.
  • Manage and maintain adequate electrical and electronic component spares and modify inventory as needed. Ensure corrections are coordinated with materials management.
  • Inform Technical Dept. and operations managers of any technical problems or limitations that may affect safety of personnel or safe operation of the rig.
  • Identify the need of modifications to improve Safety and equipment functionality. Submit Management of Change (MOC) for design and compliance approval. Coordinate the implementation of agreed upon recommendations from audits, issued by Clients, Regulatory Authorities or Rig Management
  • Ensure that reports for repairs and maintenance are accurate and properly documented in Star / SAP. Assist and supply information for maintenance, upgrade and repair budgets annually.
  • Communicate equipment problems or breakdowns that result in down time to Operations and Technical Support group. Establish and maintain at all time an “Electronic Handover Book” so his/her relief can quickly get acquainted with the present situation onboard with copies available to the Maintenance Supervisor and/or Rig Superintendents/OIMs.

HSE REQUIREMENTS
  • Participate in Company weekly safety meetings. Demonstrate leadership and commitment to Safety Policies. Provide electrical and other guidance in daily safety meetings by identifying the hazards of the projected job scope.
  • Report potential hazards or abnormal situations to maintenance and operations personnel. Document and insure appropriate action is taken and HSE is notified of any incidents that might occur. Assist in reviewing safety case in consultation with rig operations and HSE. Assist in ensuring a high standard of hygiene and housekeeping are maintained onboard the rig. Be familiar with all relevant work and safety procedures issued by the Company and by the Operator, and promote the implementation of them.
  • Carry out his/her duties according to the rig’s Emergency Preparedness Manual.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Primary supervisory responsibility is to manage electrical staff onboard (Electrician A/B/Trainees) and any additional crew or third party assistance.
  • Assist management and relevant personnel to ensure training requirements are met as per the applicable training matrix.
  • Mentor, develop, train and assess crew members to ensure they are competent to work at their job level. Supervise and guide electrical personnel on their job training and assist with the development of an OJT program.
  • Ensure that all subordinates have the necessary skills and experience to fulfill their assigned task, in accordance with Preventive Maintenance program.
  • Prepare Annual and Semi Annual appraisals for all subordinates. Recommend promotions or disciplinary action.
  • Maintain discipline on board to ensure compliance with company disciplinary procedures.
  • Advise all personnel assigned to him of their duties, their responsibilities and the necessary safety precautions prior to start up of any work. Promptly report all accidents, near-miss accidents and non-conformances through the proper channels.
  • Be well acquainted with the legislation in respect of the working environment and safety, and environmental policy; and ensure that this is applied in the daily work onboard. Maintains a safe working environment and is responsible for managing the safety of all personnel working under his management. Qualifications / Prerequisites
  • Electronic Technology / Electrical Engineering degree preferred; or
  • High School Diploma combined with work experience, training and appropriate certifications along with a demonstrated ability of oral and written communications may be substituted in lieu of formal education, preferably accompanied by 10 years experience in the offshore drilling industry with maintenance and repair of automated drilling equipment.
  • Strong computer skills, including knowledge of or the ability to quickly learn STAR / SAP.
  • Advanced knowledge of PLCs, Network Communications, and Motor control VFD / SCR. To include the ability to do PLC hardware configuration and program modifications.
  • Print reading skills to include the ability to draw red line prints for field modifications.
  • Strong knowledge of Generator controls, their associated Networks and HMI interface.
  • Strong experience on Cyber drilling equipment.
  • Familiar with the function of the Cyber base system server functions.
  • Currently hold or is physically capable of passing a valid medical and vaccinations certificates applicable to assigned region.
 

Qualifications/Experience
